Terms of Sale

Please read these Terms of Sale carefully before placing an order at Book&Stories. By making a purchase, you agree to these Terms. Effective date: 1 January 2025. The Terms are governed by Finnish law and comply with the Finnish Consumer Protection Act (kuluttajansuojalaki 38/1978), the EU Consumer Rights Directive (2011/83/EU) and other applicable Finnish and EU legislation.

1. Seller Information

The online store on this website is operated by:

  • Trade name: Book & Stories (Toiminimi / Sole trader)
  • Business ID (Y-tunnus): 3576053-6
  • Registered address: Kahvipavunkuja 6, 00990 Helsinki, Finland
  • Customer support email: [email protected]

The seller is registered in Finland as a sole trader (toiminimi) and operates in accordance with Finnish commercial law.

2. Scope of Application

These Terms apply to all purchases made in the Book & Stories online store, between the seller and consumers or businesses. For the purposes of these Terms, a 'consumer' means a natural person acting for purposes unrelated to their trade or professional activity.

The Finnish Consumer Protection Act grants consumers mandatory rights that cannot be waived by agreement. Nothing in these Terms limits the rights guaranteed to consumers by applicable mandatory legislation.

3. Products and Pricing

All prices on the website are shown in euros (€) and include Finnish value-added tax (VAT). The VAT rate on books is 13.5% and on other goods 25.5%, in accordance with the Finnish Value Added Tax Act (arvonlisäverolaki 1501/1993).

We make every effort to display accurate prices. In the event of an obvious pricing error, we reserve the right to cancel the order before dispatch and notify you immediately. No charge will be made if the order is cancelled for this reason.

We reserve the right to change prices at any time. Price changes do not apply to already confirmed orders.

4. Order Process and Contract Formation

An order is placed by adding items to the cart and completing the checkout process: entering your contact and address details and selecting a payment method.

The sales contract is concluded when we send you an order confirmation by email. Prior to that, we reserve the right to decline or cancel an order, for example if an item is out of stock or there is a pricing error.

You are responsible for the accuracy of the order details, including the delivery address and contact information. We are not liable for non-delivery caused by incorrect details provided by you.

5. Payment

Payments are processed securely through Stripe, Inc., a third-party payment service provider. We accept the following payment methods: credit and debit cards (Visa, Mastercard, American Express) and other methods available through Stripe.

Payment is taken at the time the order is confirmed. Your payment card details are transmitted directly to Stripe via an encrypted SSL/TLS connection and are never stored on our servers.

For questions related to payment transactions, please also refer to the terms of use of your payment service provider.

6. Delivery

We deliver primarily within Finland. International delivery may also be available — please see the delivery options displayed at checkout.

Estimated delivery times are shown at checkout after selecting a delivery method. Times are indicative and not guaranteed. We are not liable for delays caused by the delivery service, customs, or other circumstances beyond our control.

Delivery costs depend on the chosen method and are displayed at checkout before the order is confirmed.

Risk of accidental loss or damage to goods passes to you when the parcel is handed to the carrier. If a parcel is damaged or lost, please contact us immediately.

7. Right of Withdrawal

As a consumer, you have the right to withdraw from a distance sales contract without giving a reason within 14 calendar days of receiving the goods — in accordance with Chapter 6 of the Finnish Consumer Protection Act and the EU Consumer Rights Directive.

To exercise your right of withdrawal, you must notify us in writing (by email: [email protected]) within the 14-day period. You may use the standard EU withdrawal form, but this is not mandatory.

After notifying us of your withdrawal, you must return the goods without undue delay and no later than 14 days. Return shipping costs are your responsibility, unless otherwise agreed or the item is defective.

Goods must be returned in their original condition, in original packaging where possible, without signs of use beyond what is necessary to assess the item. We may deduct the cost of any diminished value from the refund if the item has been handled inappropriately.

Refunds are issued within 14 days of receiving notice of withdrawal or — at the latest — within 14 days of receiving the returned goods. Refunds are made using the same payment method as the original payment, unless otherwise agreed.

Exceptions: the right of withdrawal does not apply to (a) goods made to your specifications or clearly personalised; (b) sealed goods not suitable for return due to hygiene reasons once unsealed; (c) digital content on a non-tangible medium if delivery has begun with your explicit prior consent and your acknowledgement that you lose the right of withdrawal. We will inform you of any applicable exceptions at the time of purchase.

8. Defective Products and Statutory Guarantee

Under Finnish consumer protection law (Chapter 5 of the Consumer Protection Act), you are entitled to a remedy if goods are defective at the time of delivery. Goods are defective if they do not conform to the description, do not have the quality you are reasonably entitled to expect, or otherwise do not conform to the contract.

The limitation period for defect claims is three (3) years from delivery, provided you notify us of the defect within a reasonable time after discovering it or when you should have discovered it.

If goods are defective, you may request repair, replacement, a price reduction, or — in the case of a material breach — cancellation of the contract and a full refund. Return shipping costs for defective goods are covered by us.

To report a defect, please contact us at [email protected] with your order number and a description of the defect.

9. Limitation of Liability

Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability that cannot be excluded under applicable mandatory law, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence or liability for fraud.

Subject to the above, our aggregate liability to you shall not exceed the total amount paid for the relevant order. We are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential losses.

10. Personal Data and Privacy

We process your personal data in accordance with EU Regulation 2016/679 (GDPR), the Finnish Data Protection Act (tietosuojalaki 1050/2018), and our Privacy Policy published on this website.

Data collected in connection with a purchase (name, address, email, phone, order details) is processed for the purpose of fulfilling the contract with you. By placing an order, you consent to the processing of your personal data for this purpose.

The controller of personal data processed through this website is the sole trader operating under the name Book & Stories. For data protection enquiries, please contact: [email protected].

11. Cookies

Our website uses cookies and similar storage technologies to keep the store working and to remember your preferences, such as language selection. We do not use Google Analytics, advertising cookies, or other marketing cookies.

You can review your cookie preferences through the cookie settings on this website.

12. Dispute Resolution

We will do our best to resolve any dispute amicably. If you have a complaint, please first contact our customer support at [email protected].

If an agreement cannot be reached, you may refer the matter to the Finnish Consumer Disputes Board (Kuluttajariitalautakunta), which provides free alternative dispute resolution for consumers. Website: www.kuluttajariita.fi.

You may also use the EU Online Dispute Resolution (ODR) platform at: ec.europa.eu/consumers/odr.

These Terms are governed by Finnish law. Any disputes not resolved through the above means shall be subject to the jurisdiction of Finnish courts, with the District Court of Helsinki as the court of first instance.

13. Amendments

We reserve the right to amend these Terms at any time. The version in force at the time of your order shall apply to that purchase. The updated Terms with a new effective date will be published on this page.

Registered customers may be notified of material changes by email.
